Friday Frog

Bah… another week with no posts, it’s Friday again and only a little over an hour of it left at that.

I must plan my time better. Now I only have time for a tiny frog, Eleutherodactylus iberia.

This is the smallest frog in the Northern Hemisphere, and tied for the smallest in the world. Ah, ah, ah… I have to save something for next week! In the meantime you can compare it with the very first Friday Frog , Nyctibatrachus minimus , the smallest land vertebrate in India.

The guy who discovered this frog, S. Blair Hedges of Penn State, has a penchant for the tiny and Caribbean it seems – he recently discovered the smallest snake too, Leptotyphlops carlae , in Barbados.

Before that he discovered the smallest lizard, Sphaerodactylus ariasae , in Dominican Republic.
