Friday Frog

Rana sevosa

Today’s frog is Rana sevosa, the Mississippi gopher frog, which may well be the most endangered frog in the United States. They may be among the early victims of cglobal warming, as they breed only in shallow ponds that often dry up in the summer, stranding tadpoles.  Over the last 10 years, summers have been hot, and dry, leading to very little reproduction for the species. Still, they are getting some help now, so here’s hoping they keep hopping.
