Friday Frog

Since a fortnight ago I really didn’t give enough blog space to the dozen new species of Philautus (Philauti?) recently discovered in the Western Ghats mountains of India. Here’s another one:

Philautus travancoricus

Philautus travancoricus

This strikingly lovely creature is a travancore bush frog, Philautus travancoricus. It’s unusual among its eleven peers in that it’s not so much a discovery as a rediscovery; it was previously described but was understandably thought to be extinct since no one had seen one in over a century.
