Petition For Special Prosecutor
Please note the new badge on the right hand side, right under the calendar. It is a link to a petition addressed to Attorney General Eric Holder (not President Obama, whose role ended when he appointed the AG), encouraging him to obey US and international law by investigating allegations of torture by representatives of the United States of America.
It makes me furious, frankly, that such investigations have to be demanded. It should be a matter of course that the United States of all countries would a) not torture, and b) not permit allegations of torture to go by the board for political convenience.
Sadly, America ain’t what she used to be. We’ve gone from “Give me liberty or give me death!” to “Anything is justified if there’s a one percent chance of preventing another attack.” It’s not quite too late, though, people.
If we make it plain – and I mean sky-shatteringly PLAIN, some of these people are obtuse – that we reject the pusillanimous path of political pass-it-by, that a pass for torture is not acceptable to us or consistent with our values as a nation or indeed as human beings, and that we as a nation want and DEMAND justice (not retribution but simple rule of law), then the greater part of the pols and the pundits will become more afraid to be seen opposing investigations than they are of upsetting some of their peers who may be implicated.
In lieu of actual decency, courage, honesty or honor, that’ll have to do.
So please, click on the link and sign the petition. If you have a blog of your own, click on the “Get Badge” link and spread the word from your site. No change ever occurs save through the actions of individuals.
