America is NOT a center-right nation…

… except insofar as you consider the Democratic party a center-right party, which it very well might be in any other country. By American standards, though, a recent Gallup rundown has pretty much put paid to that idea. A “solid” lead is one of 10 points or higher. A “leaning” lead is between 5-10 points. Anything tighter is “competitive”.

Solid Dem:   AR CA CT DE HI IL IA ME MD MA MI MN NJ NM NY OH OR PA RI VT WA WV WI

Leans Dem:   CO FL IN KY MO NV NH NC TN VA

Edges Dem:   AZ GA LA OK SC SD

Edges GOP:   KS MI MS MT NE ND

Leans GOP:   MS

Solid GOP:    AK ID UT WY

Interesting, no? Note that this doesn’t mean necessarily mean the Democrats will do well in the elections;  especially in midterm elections intensity of likely voter support is more important than general preferences, and the Democratic base is not very enthused recently. Still…

I hope some other polling firms follow up and check Gallup’s results – if there are any problems with the study it would be good to know that, and it would be even better if the results were independently confirmed.

Hat tip to the Daily Kos.
